Chapter 1: The Thing I Wanted to Do the Most

"Olivia Cooper, you thought that I would treat you well if you have used some means to marry me. Stop your delusions! I will never forgive you as long as I am still alive!" The man's eyes were dripping with icy coldness. He strangled her and his tone sounded like the Devil's, "Olivia, welcome to hell."
     …
"Hey, wake up now… It's cold here, don't get a flu by sleeping here."
The pressure constantly on her shoulders woke Olivia from her slumber. Her eyes immediately met a pair of worrying eyes belonging to a nurse's. She immediately recalled his tired and resenting gaze in her dreams.
If he had any trace of feelings for her, he wouldn't look at her with that kind of eyes.
     How amusing… Lucas Foster.
The nurse confirmed that she had come to herself before handing a medical report to her.
"You have forgotten your medical report. Dr. Cruz instructed that you to come here again in a week, perhaps…" The nurse looked at her with pitiful eyes. This woman was still so young, so why…
"Alright, I got it. Please pass on my gratitude to Dr. Cruz, and remember to ask him to be mum about this matter. Under no condition can he bring this up to anyone." Olivia took over that report and forced a smile at the nurse. Then, she carefully kept the report in her bag.
The sun was scorching the ground the moment she left the hospital.
Lucas was coming back from his business trip today. Olivia brought back the image of that man smiling at her, and it eased the bitterness inside her a little. She put her hands onto her bag while recalling the doctor's instruction and her brows couldn't help knitting together.
"Ms. Cooper, you have malignant lymphoma. If you don't get your treatment going, the most you have is one year. I hope you can go accomplish whatever still in your bucket list."
He was telling her to do everything she had wanted because there was probably no cure for her.
The thing she most wanted to do…
The thing she wished for the most was to be together with him forever. She would give birth to a pair of adorable children. Her son would look like him and her daughter would look like her.
From the time Olivia started loving Lucas, it had been a decade, counting from the time since she was young. That man was everywhere in her adolescent years, and all of her happiness and sadness stemmed from him.
     He never loved her.
It was like a curse, and in order to dispel this curse, Olivia had betted her own life on it. She had manipulated familial ties and finally succeeded in becoming his wife.
Olivia initially thought that it was not a big deal that he didn't love her. She had her whole life in front of her, and she could dawdle with him forever. She would want to enlighten him on her goodness, but now, she only had one year left.
Olivia shut her eyes as she tried to disperse that fear of death from her chest. She needed to see Lucas now. If he could so much as give her a hug and confess his love to her, Olivia would have no problem hurtling to her death.
     …
At night, Olivia stood in front of her home quietly. Only when the mood was hidden behind the clouds did a honking sound startled her.
     "You're back."
She produced a smile at the incoming man, but that man acted like she wasn't there as he just directly entered the house.
The smile on Olivia's face froze, and she pretended nothing unusual had happened as she followed in his steps.
"Lucas, can you give me five minutes? I have something I need to talk to you about."
Lucas never slept in the same room with her before. Ever since she moved in, he had moved to the study. If nothing warranted any necessary attention, the two of them would never met although they were staying in the same house.
Lucas removed his tie and glanced at her nonchalantly, "If it's about work, just inform my dad. I am going to rest now."
Lucas and Olivia were tied in an arranged commercial marriage. The reason Lucas' father like this daughter-in-law because her father was this city's mayor, and in some aspects of society he could call all the shots. Back then when she was married to Lucas, the Cooper family had stated the condition for Lucas to be the sole heir to the position of head of the Foster family.
However, Lucas was unlike his dad. He would rather walk a lonely path himself which might cause him to bump into obstacles, yet he would do just that if it meant he didn't need to bow down to Olivia.
His pride was equally prominent as his resentment towards Olivia, but he had no choice but to put up with her. Her existence only reminded time and again that he was able to achieve everything today because of Olivia.
A touch of redness came over Olivia's eyes, but it soon dissipated, "I have cooked some soup for you. Take a sip."
Lucas hated this part of her the most. She was like a medical ointment who tried very hard every day to pull him into her grasp.
Olivia clearly felt his hatred and coldness, but she had long gotten used to that. She tilted her head upwards at him and pleaded, "Just this once, alright?"
He just needed to do this once to fulfil her dream.
Lucas snickered coldly, "You don't need to put on this façade showing how pitiful you are."
"I didn't…" Olivia subconsciously wanted to refute, but before she could say anything, Lucas interrupted, "Enough, I don't want to listen to your nonsense. Olivia, just pill it if you have any business with me. Or else, get out of my sight!"
The maid beside him was keeping her head low. Although this was not the first time she had heard the young master throwing such harsh words at the young lady, it was still unbelievable to hear.
This young lady was the daughter of the mayor, but she was getting chewed out mercilessly here.
Olivia noticed the maid's pitiful gaze at her, and she felt a flash of embarrassment. Still, she kept her stubborn gaze on Lucas without faltering, "You always need to attend business gatherings out there, and drinking that much alcohol can't be good for your body. You should push away some of those appointments."
She served him the hangover soup from the table and there was a faint sense of nervousness in her eyes.
Lucas didn't notice her emotion. He never paid attention to her feelings before.
He took the bowl impatiently and poured all of its contents into his mouth, as if this was a designated task, "Am I good now? Ms. Cooper?"
After finishing the soup, he showed the empty bottom of the bowl to Olivia. Olivia looked complicated as she nodded lightly, but she didn't stop talking, "In the future, even if you need to attend appointments and drink, you can't forget drinking this hangover soup, or else your head will hurt. I have put some medicine which is good for your liver in your drawer, remember to eat those…"
When she was dead in the future, who would cook hangover soup for him…
"Enough! Olivia! Do you really see yourself as my wife?" Her nagging and caring words aroused a strange feeling in Lucas' heart. Before he could figure out what that feeling was, words had come blurting out from his mouth.
"Olivia, back then when you and your dad forced this marriage onto me, I have said that perhaps you are really my official wife in others' eyes, like how it is confirmed by the marriage certificate, but I would never acknowledge it!"
